How should you care for knitwear?
In order for knitwear to retain its original appearance for a long time and serve you for more than one season, you need to follow simple rules for caring for them.
The best way to care for your knitwear is professional dry cleaning. However, it is often not available, so we will tell you in detail how to wash your favorite sweater or cardigan at home.
We recommend hand washing only, as washing machines behave unpredictably and can ruin your knitted item.
Water temperature
The optimum temperature is 30°, the water should be warm. If you wash your item in cold or hot water, it will shrink, become rough and never return to its previous shape.
Laundry detergent
Liquid laundry detergent for wool or delicate items is best. Such a laundry detergent will not afferct the structure and softness of the fiber.
Whitening
Knitwear should never be bleached. Aggressive components of the bleach can ruin the color, damage the structure of the wool thread and break the weave.
If a complex stain has appeared on a knitted item, then it is better for you to take it to a dry cleaner and not try to remove the stain yourself.
How do you wash it?
Add a little detergent to a container of warm water and soak your item for no more than 30 minutes. Gently rub the areas with stains. Squeeze out excess water without twisting or pulling the item.
Drying
Knitwear can only be dried in a horizontal position so that no parts hang down, otherwise your item may stretch.
Ironing
Steaming or ironing from the inner side with an iron at a temperature not exceeding 110 °C are allowed. At this temperature, the iron will not leave pinches or marks, and your item will not glisten.
Peeling
In simple terms, peeling is the appearance of pills on knitwear due to friction. This usually happens due to contact with a bag or car seat belt.
Peeling is not an indication of the poor quality of the item or materials. Peeling is an inevitable process for any knitwear.
However, peeling is not a reason to throw away your favorite item, since it is enough to remove the pills with your hand 1-2 times, and they will not appear again!
We strongly recommend that you do not use a pellet remover, as the blade cuts off the upper part of the thread along with the pills thus breaking its structure and destroying the fiber. As a result, the pills will appear more and more often.
Conclusion
Inside each item you will find a composite tag with special signs for the care: what type of dry cleaning or washing is suitable for it, at what temperature to wash and iron, whether drying and bleaching is allowed, etc.
